SFTP

Files.com is one of the largest providers of cloud-based SFTP in the world. SFTP is widely used for business-to-business integration, and Files.com supports it fully.

SFTP has major performance limitations at the protocol level, and corporate firewalls can interfere with SFTP traffic. Use SFTP when an application or process specifically requires it, most commonly for business-to-business integration.

For file transfers where performance matters, use the Files.com direct integrations instead: the Desktop, Mobile, and Web apps, SDKs, API, and Command Line app. Preferred Apps For File Transfer gives an overview of the native apps as alternatives to SFTP.

For tuning SFTP itself, use the recommendations in Maximizing SFTP Performance.

If an SFTP connection fails during cipher negotiation, troubleshoot the cipher configuration. This includes "Failed SSH Key Exchange" and "Bad server public DH value" errors in Ipswitch WS_FTP or MoveIt and connection failures that mention the "DHG1_KEX_FALLBACK" cipher. Files you move or rename over SFTP can show up at the destination after a delay, because Files.com runs those operations in the background.
