Clients & Protocols

This section covers every way a user, device, or system can connect to your Files.com site — both the native client applications that Files.com provides and the standard protocols that third-party tools use.

If you are not sure where to start, see Preferred Apps for File Transfer.

Native Client Apps

Files.com provides first-party client applications for different workflows and environments.

The Desktop App is the best option for high-speed, large-scale transfers from Windows or macOS. It also supports a mounted drive experience for working in Explorer or Finder.

The Mobile App is built for browsing and managing files on iOS and Android. Use it for quick access, reviews, approvals, and on-the-go uploads.

The Command Line Interface (CLI) AppExternal LinkThis link leads to an external website and will open in a new tab is built for scripted and automated workflows across multiple platforms. Use it for repeatable transfers, scheduled jobs, and administrative automation such as managing users, groups, and settings from scripts.

The Web Interface (Web UI) is the primary control plane for your site. Use it for administration, configuration, file management, sharing, and auditing.

Other Client Apps covers supported third-party tools like rclone, rsync, and backup utilities. Use these when a specific toolchain is already part of your workflow or when native apps are not an option.

Protocols

Files.com supports standard file transfer protocols for integrating with counterparties, devices, and systems that require a specific protocol.

SFTP is the most common secure protocol for B2B file exchange. Use it when counterparties mandate SFTP, or when you need an SSH-based integration.

FTP and FTPS are legacy protocols. Use them only when a system cannot support newer options.

S3-Compatible Endpoint lets S3 clients and SDKs interact with Files.com over HTTPS. Use it when your CI/CD pipelines, backup software, or cloud-native integrations already speak S3.

AS2 supports secure B2B transmissions with MDN receipts. Use it when trading partners require AS2 for integrity and non-repudiation.

WebDAV provides file access over HTTPS using the WebDAV standard. Use it when you specifically need WebDAV behavior; otherwise prefer the Desktop App for speed and usability.
