Email Logs
Email logs help administrators establish whether a message reached an Inbox or Files.com attempted to send it to a recipient. Those are separate exchanges: a successful inbound attachment upload does not establish delivery of its receipt email, and a successful outbound submission does not confirm arrival in the recipient's inbox.
Use the sender or recipient, Inbox, approximate time, and processing result to find the relevant record. Webhook Logs record HTTP notifications to other systems.
Inbound Email
The Inbound Emails log records emails received for your Inboxes that are configured with an email address. Use it to audit senders, see the attachments they delivered, and confirm whether each attachment uploaded or failed because of domain whitelisting rules, invalid file types, or other reasons.
Each entry includes the date the email was received, the associated Inbox title, the sender's email address and name, the transaction status (Success, Failed, or Skipped), attachment information with file names, and the email body.
Incoming email message records are retained for 30 days from creation, then automatically removed. This includes the recorded email body and processing details. Removing the message record does not delete attachments or message bodies saved as files in the Inbox folder; those files follow the site's file retention settings.
Outbound Email
The Outbound Emails log records attempts to send emails from your site, including emails that were suppressed or failed. Use the recipient, time, status, and message to determine whether Files.com submitted an email for delivery or prevented it from being sent.
We retain these logs for 180 days.
Delivery Statuses
The status describes what happened when Files.com attempted to send the email.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Success | Files.com submitted the email through the configured delivery path. This does not confirm arrival in the recipient's inbox. |
| Suppressed | Files.com did not send the email because the recipient address is on its suppression list. |
| Failure | An error occurred while preparing or sending the email. The Message column provides details. |
An address can be suppressed because the recipient permanently opted out of platform emails, because of a hard bounce, or because an email was reported as spam. The permanent opt-out is labeled Don't email me anything, ever again under Permanent Removal Option. Disabling individual notifications does not suppress the email address.
The suppression message Did not mail because recipient is on suppression list. does not identify the reason for suppression. Check the recipient's unsubscribe choice and any prior delivery problems before assuming a hard bounce. Troubleshooting Emails from Files.com explains the next steps.
