Troubleshooting Box

For a Box download failure, identify the file and the Box account authorized on the Remote Server. A successful Box sign-in or folder listing does not establish that the account can download that file's original contents.

Cannot Download File

Errors such as Box errored while trying to Download: '403:' and Could not download {path} due to: can indicate that Box denied the download. Check the account's access to the affected file and any download or watermark restrictions; the error alone does not establish which restriction applies.

A Box Viewer can preview watermarked content without permission to download its original file through the connection. Ask the Box owner to provide the access required for the workflow. Box's watermark permissionsExternal LinkThis link leads to an external website and will open in a new tab distinguish original-file access from a watermarked preview or download. An Editor account supports original-file downloads and broader file management; select permissions for the work rather than changing the Files.com user's folder permissions to resolve a Box-side denial.

If the same account cannot reach the file directly in Box, correct its remote access first. If the Remote Server instead reports an authorization failure affecting all files, follow Re-authenticating Remote Servers.
