Customer-Installed Software
Files.com maintains the Agent, Desktop and Mobile Apps, Command Line Interface (CLI) App, and SDKs that customers run in their own environments. Files.com publishes releases; your organization controls which versions reach its servers, workstations, mobile devices, and custom applications.
Updates to the hosted Files.com service do not update those local installations or the SDK dependencies within your applications. Keeping them current is part of the customer's operational responsibility.
Official Distribution Channels
Obtain software through the Files.com download pages, official app-store listings, or the Files.com repositories and packages linked below. Package names can differ from repository names, so use the named package rather than selecting a similarly named search result.
| Software | Official Distribution | Update Responsibility |
|---|---|---|
| On-Premise Agent | Files.com downloads linked from Installing the Agent. | The host administrator enables and maintains automatic updates or performs manual upgrades. |
| Desktop App | Files.com installers linked from Desktop App Installation. | The app updates itself unless centrally managed deployment settings disable in-app updates. |
| Mobile App | Apple App Store and Google Play. | The device owner or mobile-device administrator enables store updates and keeps the app current. |
| CLI App | Files-com/files-cli releases, including installers and archives, and the official Files.com Homebrew tap. | The administrator updates through the installation method used for the CLI. |
| Official SDKs | Files.com GitHub repositories and language package managers listed in Official SDKs. | The application owner updates the dependency, tests the integration, and deploys the updated application. |
Signing and Download Verification
Files.com signs the Windows Agent executables and MSI installer, and the Windows Desktop App and its installers. The macOS Agent and Desktop App are signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple.
Agent updates check the downloaded content against the expected cryptographic checksum before installing it. The Agent upgrade guide describes automatic updates, manual upgrades, and recovery from unsuccessful updates.
SDKs and the CLI use their published repository and package-manager release channels. Use the package identifier and source linked by Files.com, retaining the package manager's integrity checks and dependency records as part of your application's build process. Platform code signing, package integrity checks, and selecting the official source address different parts of software distribution.
Automatic Updates
Files.com strongly recommends enabling automatic updates for the Agent and Desktop App, and automatic App Store or Google Play updates for the Mobile App. This delivers fixes through the normal release process without depending on a separate notice to prompt each installation.
Agent automatic updates are enabled by default and require the Agent to run as a system service. The default policy installs every available Agent release; other policies limit or disable automatic updates. Administrators can define blocked update periods for busy times without disabling automatic updates entirely.
The Desktop App checks for updates at launch and every 24 hours by default. If your organization disables in-app updating for a centrally managed deployment, its IT team takes responsibility for distributing current releases. Updating the Desktop App explains both arrangements.
The CLI and SDKs follow the installation and dependency-management process used by your organization. Review new releases regularly and deploy updates through that process.
Compatibility and Supported Environments
Files.com strongly encourages customers to use the latest SDK release. Updates within a major version are generally backward compatible, but some minor-version changes can require application changes. SDK Versioning and Updates explains major, minor, and build numbers, version pinning, and testing updates before production deployment.
Support also depends on the operating system or language runtime used by the installed release. Review the Agent deployment requirements, Desktop App requirements, app-store compatibility information, and the selected CLI or SDK release's installation requirements. A dependency pinned to an older release does not receive fixes published only in newer releases.
Security Updates and Notices
Files.com does not issue separate, real-time security-update announcements for the Agent, Desktop and Mobile Apps, CLI, or SDKs. Keep installed software current through its normal release channel rather than waiting for an individual security advisory.
This release practice is separate from incident communications and breach notification. Applicable incident-notification obligations remain governed by law and the customer's agreement.
