A site administrator can choose which online editor to enable for conventional business file format documents: the Files.com editor, Microsoft Office for Web, or no editing allowed. By default, your site will be configured to use the Files.com editor for previewing such documents.

When integrations for editing documents have been disabled, they cannot be previewed directly. Instead, the system generates temporary PDF files for previews, which approximate the original document's formatting. The formatting changes affect only the temporary PDF, and your original document is unchanged.

The table below lists what types of files can be previewed using the Files.com editor.

Some legacy productivity file formats, such as .doc, .xls and .ppt will require conversion before they can be displayed. Styles and formatting in converted documents may differ from the original files.

When the converted document cannot be stored as the original format, such as a .htm file being converted to .docx, a new file is added to your folder with the converted format. The original is not changed.
