Bring Your Own IP (BYOIP)

Files.com offers Enterprise customers the ability to Bring Your Own IP (BYOIP), allowing you to use your own public IPv4 address ranges for both inbound and outbound traffic from your Files.com site.

This provides enhanced control over your network footprint, simplifies allowlisting, and supports advanced compliance and branding requirements.

This feature is available exclusively to customers on Enterprise plans and requires approval and coordination with the Files.com team. Extra charges will apply.

Benefits of BYOIP

Bringing your own IPs to Files.com offers several advantages:

  • Allowlisting and Firewall Compatibility: Use IPs you already control in your security policies, simplifying integration with partners or internal systems.
  • Brand Continuity: Maintain IP space that aligns with your organization's domain or branding strategy.
  • Reputation Management: Preserve the reputation history of your IP space across email, networking, and integrations.
  • Global IP Strategy: Deploy consistent, known IPs across multiple regions with precise control.

Supported Traffic Types

Files.com supports BYOIP for both inbound and outbound traffic:

  • Inbound: Users accessing your site over FTP, SFTP, FTPS, WebDAV, and HTTPS protocols will connect to your own IP addresses.
  • Outbound: All outbound connections—such as webhooks and outbound connections to FTP/SFTP servers—can optionally originate from your IPs.

This ensures total transparency and predictability of network traffic in both directions.

Requirements

To participate in the BYOIP program, your organization must meet the following criteria:

  • You must own a public IPv4 address range registered with a recognized Regional Internet Registry (RIR) such as ARIN, RIPE, or APNIC.
  • You must provide at least a /24 subnet (256 IPs) per geographic region where you want the IPs to be used.
  • Your IP space must be eligible for BGP advertisement and not currently routed elsewhere, or you must be able to withdraw any existing announcements.
  • You must authorize Files.com to announce and use your IPs during the term of your contract.
  • All participating sites must be on an Enterprise Plan, and BYOIP requires prior coordination and approval.

Setup Process

The onboarding process for BYOIP involves close coordination with the Files.com team and proceeds as follows:

  1. Contact Files.com Support Reach out via your Account Manager or Support contact to request BYOIP onboarding. We’ll discuss your use case, regions, and confirm eligibility.
  2. Verification and Review We will verify your ownership of the IP range(s) and ensure they meet our technical criteria. You’ll be asked to provide:
    • WHOIS registration or RIR records
    • Confirmation of current routing status
    • ASN information (if applicable)
  3. Authorization You’ll complete a Letter of Authorization (LOA) permitting Files.com via Amazon Web Services (AWS), our infrastructure provider, to announce the ranges. We may also assist with creating or updating route objects.
  4. Deployment Once authorization is confirmed, we will begin announcing the IPs in the selected regions. We'll configure your Files.com site to use your IPs for all relevant traffic.
  5. Testing and Monitoring After deployment, we work with your team to verify connectivity and ensure the IPs are functioning as expected. Monitoring and support continue throughout your use of the service.

Ongoing Usage and Management

  • Exclusivity: While in use with Files.com, your IP ranges must not be advertised from any other provider or network.
  • Routing Visibility: Your IPs will be globally visible and reachable, integrated with our high-availability infrastructure.
  • Return and Withdrawal: You may request deallocation of your ranges at any time. We typically cease announcements within 48 hours.
  • Support: Files.com provides ongoing support for all announced ranges, including routing health, DNS, and protocol-specific integrations.
