Global Acceleration Features

The Global acceleration features setting affects the file transfer routes between your users and your selected storage region.

Changing this setting immediately affects new client connections to your site.

Closest Servers

Files.com recommends letting us connect users to their closest server. This feature optimizes the network connection between users and Files.com storage.

For example, if your storage is in Europe, and your users are in Singapore, then your users will be connected to our Singapore region which will then forward those connections to Europe over our accelerated network. If your users are in Europe then they will be connected to our Europe region, avoiding needless roundtrip routing.

Connections through a Custom Domain use that domain's region instead of the closest-server route. Consider that endpoint choice alongside this setting.

Regional Only

If your requirements restrict the region in which users connect, choose the specified storage geographic region. Users then connect through the site's Files.com subdomain, such as mycompany.files.com, or its Custom Domain. This controls their application connection; Regional Requirements covers storage, temporary processing, logs, and other connections.

FedRAMP Security Mode sets this option for you and locks it, so a site running that mode cannot use the closest-server routing described above.

For this example, let's assume that you've configured your site's region to be Canada. If your storage is in Europe, and your users are in Singapore, then your users will be connected to our Canada region which will then forward those connections to Europe over our accelerated network. If your users are in Europe then they will also be connected to our Canada region which will then forward those connections to Europe over our accelerated network. The application connections enter through Canada, but reaching the European folder still requires transmission to Europe. A regional connection setting does not relocate files or override a folder's storage region.

This setting does not pin a native Files.com Remote Server connection from another Files.com site using your site's API key. It also does not change which folders that key can access. If your regional requirements cannot permit that connection, disable native Remote Server access on the site that issued the key. Regional Storage, Access, and Transmission covers the other settings and processing locations to consider.
