November 2024

In November 2024, we introduced features for viewing and editing file metadata, sharing data from parent sites to connected remote servers and child sites, and co-authoring Office documents with share link visitors.

Modern Checksum Options

Your site offers new checksum options for SHA1 and SHA256 alongside the existing CRC32 and MD5. The new checksums are more computationally intensive, so checksum processing requires you to opt in.

Site administrators can review your site's File Integrity settings to choose whether and which checksums to enable. Enabling checksum calculations carries a performance cost, so we recommend enabling them only if your workflow requires them. If no election is made, all checksum calculations will be disabled for your site at the start of December 2024.

Copy and Move to Remote Servers and Child Sites

The File Manager copy and move feature now helps you populate content for Child Sites or Remote Servers directly in the web interface. No action is required to enable it. When a site administrator uses the File Manager to copy or move files, they can choose any configured Remote Server or Child Site as the destination.

Site administrators can also perform these actions through other interfaces (such as FTP or the CLI) through the Underscore folder, making it convenient to transfer items between Child Sites.

Track Custom Metadata for Files and Folders

You can now add custom metadata to files or folders. This data is stored as key-value pairs within the metadata of each individual file or folder and can be viewed or modified by any user with access to the path. This feature is available for all sites right now.

Site administrators can now enable visitors to full-access Share Links to edit and co-author standard productivity suite file format documents directly within the Share Link. This feature requires your site's Online Editor Integration to be enabled, and it is compatible with the Files.com Editor and Microsoft Office for Web.

Minor Updates

We've also made quality improvements throughout the platform.

Move Automations Never Trigger GPG Encryption

Move File Automations are now more consistent and will not trigger automatic GPG Encryption on files that are moved, even when the source is a Remote Server Mount. Our support team has already followed up with any customers impacted by this change.

SmartFile Host Key Can Be Used for SFTP

Site administrators can now select the SmartFile Host Key in their SFTP service settings. Only sites migrated from the legacy SmartFile platform need this setting.

Insecure Cipher Usage Display

The listing of which ciphers have been used by a user now highlights those considered insecure. This helps site administrators determine which users are impacted by changing cipher requirements for your site.

Header and MIME Configuration Options for AS2 Partners

You can configure each AS2 trading partner with customized HTTP headers and a default MIME type for your transmissions. This gives you more granular options for meeting trading partner requirements.

Improved Logging for AS2 Outbound Error Messages

AS2 Outbound message logs now include more detail to help troubleshoot issues with your trading partners. The improved logging is automatically available on all sites, so no action is needed to enable it.

New Trigger Summary Column for Syncs List

The list of Syncs in the web interface now includes a column showing how and when each Remote Server Sync will start. This makes it easier to scan the list and verify the syncs are configured as expected.

Improved Error Messaging in CLI

The errors displayed for failed uploads or folder syncs using the CLI now include more specific detail. This makes it quicker to track down the root cause of a failure. Update your CLI installation to v2.13.184 or higher to enable the more useful messages.

Child Site Creation Change

We've removed the requirement for each Child Site to have at least one site administrator, because site admins of the parent site have access to all Child Sites. The form to create Child Sites has been updated to reflect this change. No action is needed to enable it.

Searching the Current Folder in File Manager

The File Manager now includes a search bar directly above the files listing for searching within the currently selected folder. This search is available to all users with access to the folder.

Outbound Connections Logging Full Path For Mounted Folders

We've updated how paths on Remote Server Mounts are recorded in the Outbound Connections logs. The full path of a file from the root directory of the Remote Server is now logged, rather than the path relative to the mount's directory. This prevents confusion when comparing the Outbound Connections logs with logs that exist on the Remote Server.

The updated behavior automatically applies to logged file activity on remote servers.

JumpCloud SSO Provider

Adding a new JumpCloud SSO Provider is now simpler with a new dedicated integration type. Existing integrations that used our SAML (Any Provider) connector will continue working; you do not need to set up your connection again.

Session IP Pinning Option Sunset

The option to pin non-desktop application sessions to a single IP address has been removed. This setting caused frequent error messages and complaints of failures and offered little overall security benefit.

The option to require desktop sessions to re-authenticate whenever the client's IP address changes is still available.

The expiration field for a Share Link now includes the time that the Share Link will expire as well as the date. This allows for more fine-grained control over when a Share Link is available to your recipients.
