March 2025

In March 2025, we shipped better access controls for child sites and automatic drive mapping for the Desktop v6 App for Windows. We also added a force-download option for public hosting, clearer GPG key error messages, faster log pages, navigation improvements, and broader access to features that were previously hard to reach.

Delegate Permissions for Child Sites

You can now grant users and groups access to specific paths within child sites, all managed from the parent site. A single SSO identity provider can cover every site, and user accounts live in the parent site instead of being managed separately per child site.

Permissions are also centralized, so you can see who has access to what across the environment from one place.

You can delegate site administrator or read-only administrator access to specific users or groups, scoped to the paths you choose.

Mapped Drives with Desktop v6 App for Windows

The Files.com Desktop v6 App for Windows now supports automatic drive letter mapping, starting with version 6.0.1518. Your Files.com site appears as a local drive on your computer, so you can work with your files the same way you work with any local folder.

You control whether the drive gets mapped automatically and which drive letter it uses.

Drive mapping is available now for Windows. Support for other platforms is coming soon.

To get started, download and install the latest version using the EXE installer from the Desktop v6 download page.

Other Minor Updates

Public Hosting Option to Force Downloads

We added a new Public Hosting setting that forces visitors to download files instead of opening them in the browser. Files that browsers would normally render inline — images, audio, video — also download under this setting. Use it when you want recipients to save the published content to disk rather than view it in place.

Folder admins and site administrators can enable the Force download option on any of their public hosting URLs.

GPG Key Manager Improvements

We improved the error messages in the GPG key manager when you import public and private keys that do not match. The system checks for matching key pairs and explains exactly what is wrong so you can fix the issue. This check runs the moment you import your own key pair.

On-Premises Agent Windows Installer Updates

We updated the Windows version of the on-premises agent so that when you install it as a service, the service restarts automatically as needed. File transfers keep running without a manual restart by an administrator.

Installing the latest version of the agentExternal LinkThis link leads to an external website and will open in a new tab on Windows enables this behavior, whether you use the EXE or the MSI installer.

Faster, Cleaner and Easier to Use Web Interface

We made several updates to the web interface covering navigation, log page performance, access to features that were previously hard to reach, and browser-language handling.

We added folder breadcrumbs to the full-page preview, so you always know which folder you are working in. Form layouts are also more consistent across pages, with the same buttons and page controls on each data table.

All logging pages load faster on the first visit.

Read-only administrators can now view folder permissions directly in the file manager. Users who can manage custom forms or public hosting can now reach their standalone pages, which were previously unavailable to some users.

The login page now detects your browser language and adjusts automatically.
