Folders Containing Large Number of Files
If your Automation workflow is configured on folders containing a large number of files, the Automation may experience performance issues or be at risk of being disabled. The recommended maximum or soft limit is 10,000 files per folder to ensure reliable performance. The hard limit is 100,000 files per folder, and when this limit is reached or exceeded, the Automation will fail.
This hard limit applies when the source folder is evaluated through folder matching logic, such as with triggers like interval, custom schedule, or inbound webhook, where files need to be copied, moved, or deleted from the source folder to a destination as per the Automation. However, if the Automation trigger is based on file actions based trigger, this hard limitation does not apply.
To maintain reliable Automation performance and prevent failures caused by large folder size, consider using automatic file organization by file extension, creation date, modification date, or regular expression to move files from large folders into subfolders. This creates smaller and more manageable collections that Automations can handle more efficiently.
Another effective way to manage file count is by enabling the File Expiration folder setting. This feature automatically deletes files after they reach a specified age, helping to prevent folders from growing too large over time.
Our support team would be happy to work with your team to set up a more scalable file structure.
