Business Document Previews

A site administrator chooses which online editor to enable for conventional business file format documents: the Files.com editor, Microsoft Office for Web, or no editing. New sites default to the Files.com editor for previewing these documents.

When document-editing integrations are disabled, documents cannot be previewed directly. The system generates a temporary PDF file for the preview instead, which approximates the original document's formatting. The formatting changes affect only the temporary PDF; the original document is unchanged.

Legacy productivity formats such as .doc, .xls, and .ppt are converted before display. Styles and formatting in converted documents may differ from the original files.

When the converted document cannot be stored as the original format, such as a .htm file being converted to .docx, a new file is added to your folder with the converted format. The original is not changed.
