AI
Files.com offers two AI capabilities that let you and your AI tools work directly with your site. The AI Assistant is built into the Web App and available to any logged-in user. The MCP Server connects external AI clients to Files.com and is configured by Site Administrators.
The AI Assistant is a chat interface embedded in the Files.com Web App. Any logged-in user can ask questions about their account, investigate logs, generate reports, and take actions, all within their own permission scope and with their approval. No setup is required.
The MCP Server connects external AI clients like Claude Desktop directly to Files.com through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Site Administrators configure the connection using an API key and MCP access permissions, which scope the AI to specific folders and actions. The recommended approach is least privilege: grant the minimum the workflow needs and expand from there.
The pages under this section cover both capabilities. AI Assistant covers the in-app chat interface, including what each permission level can do and real-world use cases. Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server describes the server setup and behavior. MCP Access Permissions covers permission configuration.
Available MCP Tools lists the tools the AI can call. MCP Prompts covers the prompt guidance Files.com provides for safe, repeatable workflows. To validate a connection end to end before expanding access, follow the Quickstart for Claude Desktop.
