Enabling Plain / Unencrypted / Insecure FTP

Files.com requires encryption on all connections, including FTP connections, by default. This protects credentials and file contents from interception. Some environments still need plain FTP for compatibility with legacy clients, and Site Administrators can enable it at the site or user level.

To allow plain/unencrypted FTP connections across the site, set the Plain/unencrypted FTP Support option on the FTP service for your Files.com site.

To restrict plain FTP to specific users while keeping the rest of the site encryption-only, leave the site-level setting at its default and override it on the individual user. Edit the user account and set Plain/unencrypted FTP support to Allow plain/unencrypted FTP connections.

Plain/unencrypted FTP connections can still be initiated against a site configured to Require SSL on all FTP connections, because the user identity is not known until login completes. Users without the per-user override are forced to use TLS/SSL with FTP at login.
