Name Sorting

File and folder names within Files.com use lexicographic sorting. When you view a list of files that is sorted by name, any digits within those names are interpreted as text characters rather than numeric values.

For example, if your site's is configured to automatically append numbers to conflicting file names rather than overwriting old files, you may end up with many files that have similar names but end in a numeric suffix (_2, _3, etc.). You might expect a list of files to sort in this order:

upload.edi
upload_2.edi
upload_3.edi
upload_4.edi
upload_5.edi
upload_6.edi
upload_7.edi
upload_8.edi
upload_9.edi
upload_10.edi
upload_11.edi

But when you sort the listing by name, you will see:

upload_10.edi
upload_11.edi
upload_2.edi
upload_3.edi
upload_4.edi
upload_5.edi
upload_6.edi
upload_7.edi
upload_8.edi
upload_9.edi
