Files.com provides the cloud infrastructure for file transfers. Your network configuration determines whether users and connected systems can reach the application and storage services they need. Your choice of client, storage location, and transfer route also affects performance.

Site Addresses and Domains

Every site has a Files.com subdomain. An optional Custom Domain provides an address on a domain you own, with DNS and certificate configuration. Custom domains also provide dedicated IP addresses.

Use DNS names in clients so connections can follow the platform's routing and failover. IP Addresses covers the Files.com-owned range, dedicated addresses, and options for organizations that need to bring their own addresses.

Application and Storage Access

The application layer authenticates users, enforces permissions, and directs requests to the appropriate services. Users connect through the web, Files.com apps, APIs, or file transfer protocols.

File contents reside in Files.com's native regional storage or on Remote Servers, including on-premise storage connected through the Agent. Protocol transfers reach storage through the application layer. Web and API transfers can also use signed URLs that reach storage directly.

A network that allows login but blocks storage endpoints can still prevent uploads and downloads. Hostnames Used by Files.com identifies the application and storage hostnames, plus additional endpoints for features such as online editing, public hosting, and Agent Direct Transfers. Ports Used by Files.com gives the connection requirements by protocol.

Fixed storage hostnames used in firewall rules are separate from the temporary signed URLs for uploads, downloads, and previews.

Transfer Routes and Performance

File Transfer Speed explains client and protocol choices. Files.com apps and SDKs provide transfer optimizations, including parallelism and retries, while Connection Limits define the supported level of parallel access.

Regional Storage controls where native file contents reside. Regional Data Routing controls transfer routes to Remote Servers. Global Acceleration and the region of a custom domain affect how users reach the site. Review these together when balancing performance and regional requirements.

The requirements above describe access through your own network. IP Whitelisting and Access Control by Country are separate site policies that restrict where authenticated users may connect from.
