Migration Assistance

Files.com helps customers move their data and users from prior systems onto Files.com. Most customers handle the migration themselves; Enterprise customers can have Files.com perform the initial import on their behalf.

Migrating Files and Folders

Most customers migrate their data to Files.com by self-service. The Files.com user interface makes migration quick and learning the system end-to-end during the migration is often worth doing yourself.

Pull Files Using a Sync

We recommend setting up a Sync to transfer files from a remote repository into Files.com. The Sync feature pushes or pulls files to and from remote servers; initial import is one of its many use cases. Once you see how a Remote Server Sync works, you may find additional uses for it.

Sync supports these remote server types: Azure Blob Storage, Backblaze B2, Box, Dropbox, Files.com Agent, FTP, Google Cloud Storage, Google Drive, OneDrive, Amazon S3, SFTP, SharePoint, Wasabi, and WebDAV.

If your storage runs on Windows, Linux, or macOS, you can use our Agent to enable a Sync with that storage. The Agent works with on-premise systems and cloud-hosted systems.

Push Files to Files.com Using the CLI

If you have access to a server containing the files you want to import, you may prefer to use the Files.com Command Line App (CLI)External LinkThis link leads to an external website and will open in a new tab. The CLI supports our most advanced acceleration technology and wins speed tests hands down.

Here is a push (upload) example for syncing files from a local folder called Existing-Content to a Files.com folder called Files-Content:

files-cli upload Existing-Content Files-Content --sync

Upload Files via FTP, SFTP, or Any Other Mechanism

You can also manually import files using FTP, SFTP, or any other upload mechanism Files.com supports.

Importing Users

We recommend using the spreadsheet bulk import to create your users efficiently.

You can also provision users through a Single Sign-On strategy using LDAP or SCIM.

Full Migration Assistance for Enterprise Customers

Enterprise customers can have Files.com perform the initial import of their files and user database. Request Full Migration Assistance and Files.com will:

  • Create, manage, and monitor up to two Syncs from an existing repository.
  • Perform an initial upload of file content from a ZIP or TAR file delivered any way you can get it to us (web link, mailed disk, and the like).
  • Perform an initial upload of file content from any server we can access where we can install and run the Files.com CLI app.
  • Import a user list from a spreadsheet or from a Single Sign-On system using LDAP or SCIM provisioning.

Our staff monitors the status of the Sync and the user import, reports any errors, and confirms when the import is complete.
