Auditing Inbox Uploads
Logs for Inbox Uploads
For uploads to an Inbox via the web, you can audit the upload details in the folder history by filtering the logs on Folder path and selecting the interface as web. For uploads via email, select the interface as Email.
A full audit of inbound emails is also available in the logs for inbound emails. These logs include the sender's email address, sender's name, attachment details, and email body. When an attempted upload's status is Skipped or Failure, the details column explains why the inbound email failed.
Common Errors in Inbound Email Logs
Email-to-Inbox uploads fail for several reasons. Problems that occur once the email reaches the Files.com email server include an error message in the Inbound Email Logs. Errors that prevent a message from reaching Files.com at all must be researched from the sender's email service.
Whitelisting Email Domains
"Sender <email address> is not allowed to upload to this folder" results from the Whitelisting email domains setting being turned on. When this setting is enabled, an email is rejected if the sender's domain or email address is not in the list of whitelisted email domains.
Inbound Email Authentication
"Email Authentication Failed" results from a verification step in Files.com that validates the SPF, DKIM, and DMARC signatures on the message. This check prevents spoofing, spamming, and other misuse. It is controlled by the Enable inbound email authentication setting under Sharing -> Sharing Settings. When this setting is enabled, emails that fail authentication are discarded and logged as a failure. When this error appears, contact the sender and check whether their mail server or an intermediary server is causing the failure.
Folder Settings That Restrict Uploads
Some folder settings applied to an Inbox's folder restrict certain uploads: Limit Uploaded Files To Certain File Extensions, Limit Uploaded Files By File Name Length, and Limit Uploaded Files To Regular Expression. When a file blocked by one of these restrictions is emailed to an Inbox, the Inbound Email Logs display an error message explaining why the file could not be saved.
