Desktop App

The Files.com Desktop App transfers files between Windows or macOS and Files.com, and makes your site's files available in File Explorer or Finder. Use it for bulk transfers or for opening and editing files with applications installed on your computer.

Install the Desktop App for individual use, or use Large Scale Deployments to distribute it through your organization's device management tools. Using the Desktop App covers authentication, account connections, and connectivity.

Three Modes of Use

Choose a mode according to the work: edit files in place, transfer a batch, or compare and transfer a folder.

Mounted Drive Mode: Access Files via File Explorer or Finder

Mounted Drive Mode makes Files.com available under This PC in Windows File Explorer or Locations in macOS Finder. Open a file in its local application, edit it, and save it back to Files.com. The app downloads files when needed and uploads saved changes. Large files can take time to open or save, depending on their size and your connection.

On macOS, cached files remain accessible offline, and changes upload when you reconnect.

Turbo Transfer Mode: High-Speed Transfers for Large Data Workflows

Turbo Transfer Mode is the recommended mode for large uploads, downloads, and bulk operations. It provides local and Files.com file panes, drag-and-drop transfers, progress tracking, pause and resume, parallel transfers, and configurable retries.

For supported Remote Server types, file data can travel directly to the storage through Direct Routing or the On-Premise Agent's Direct Transfers. The app uses the direct connection automatically and falls back to the standard route when that connection cannot be established.

Sync Mode: One-Time Sync

Sync Mode runs a comparison and transfer between a local folder and a Files.com folder. A Push run uploads; a Pull run downloads. You choose the paths and connection profile, then configure options such as include and ignore patterns, source file deletion, and dry-run mode.

Each run starts manually. Multiple runs can be active at once, and sync history clears when the app closes.

Sharing

Mounted Drive Mode and Turbo Transfer Mode can create Share Links for files and folders the user has permission to share. The Windows app also includes the Outlook Add-In, which sends local files as Snapshot Share Links from Classic Outlook for Windows.

Desktop App vs. On-Premise Agent

Use the On-Premise Agent when Files.com needs ongoing access to a local file server, attached disk, or network share, including CIFS, SMB, and NFS storage. Connect that storage to Files.com for centrally managed access or recurring Syncs. Desktop App Sync Mode is a one-time operation started by the person using the app.
