Direct Routing transfers file contents between the client and storage provider without relaying them through the Files.com network. Support depends on the provider, authentication method, and transfer direction.

Direct Routing applies to transfers made through the CLI App, the Desktop App, and the official SDKs. Transfers made through the web interface always route through Files.com's network.

Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage (HMAC authentication), the S3 Compatible backend, Cloudflare, Backblaze B2, Wasabi, Akamai Linode, and Filebase support Direct Routing for both uploads and downloads. Google Cloud Storage connections using a Service Account Key (JSON) support Direct Routing for downloads only.

The On-Premise Agent acts similarly when its Direct Transfers feature is enabled. Uploads and downloads through the CLI App and Desktop App pass directly between the client and the Agent instead of relaying through Files.com's network.
