September 2025
This month’s updates include major improvements to Files.com Desktop App, Sync, transfers to Amazon S3 and S3-compatible Remote Servers, and the Files.com On-Premise Agent.
Desktop v6 App Replaces Desktop v4 App
Files.com Desktop v6 App now supports Mounted Drive Mode for both Windows and macOS, allowing you to browse, open, edit, and save files directly in Explorer or Finder. Desktop v6 App is a major upgrade from the legacy Desktop v4 App.
Desktop v6 App offers two modes of access to match your workflow needs. Stand Alone Mode delivers high-speed uploads and downloads, ideal for large-scale data transfers and bulk workflows. Mounted Drive Mode integrates Files.com directly into your operating system through Explorer and Finder for everyday convenience and provides a seamless user experience. Installation is simple, and you get a single client that integrates both methods in one convenient package.
With this new update, we are also sunsetting our legacy Desktop v4 App. Desktop v4 will no longer receive updates or new features. We recommend that you upgrade all users to the Desktop v6 App immediately. There is no direct upgrade path from v4 to v6, so you must uninstall v4 before installing v6.

New Sync Capabilities
The new Sync feature is a major upgrade, replacing the legacy Remote Server Sync feature. Sync delivers both greater flexibility and simplicity in this new feature.
Rather than just synchronizing a local folder with a remote server, new Sync can connect local folders and remote servers in any combination. For example, you can now sync between 2 remote servers directly without creating a mount.
Tracking Sync actions is now more transparent, with each Sync including its own dedicated log file. This makes it simple to audit Sync activity and troubleshoot issues.
We've simplified how to configure Syncs by making them always transfer files from a source to a destination, unlike remote server syncs, which could "push" or "pull". By standardizing this format, we've reduced the amount of planning required to manage large numbers of Syncs.
All existing Remote Server Syncs will automatically upgrade to the new Sync, so no action is required to convert existing flows.
The updated Sync APIs are fully supported by all of our SDKs and ready for use. If you currently rely on the Files.com SDKs or Terraform to configure your remote server syncs, you’ll need to update your tools to use the new Sync APIs.

Faster Uploads for S3-Compatible Remote Servers
Uploads to Amazon S3 and other S3-compatible servers are faster, improving Remote Server Mount transfers, regardless of how you connect to your site. This also speeds up Syncs that upload to Amazon S3 or S3-compatible Remote Servers.
No action is required to take advantage of the improved performance for your Remote Server connections.
Major Upgrades to On-Premise Agent
We've made major improvements to transfers with the Files.com On-Premise Agent, and eliminated the need to manually install future updates.
File Transfer Speed Improvements
Uploads to an agent, whether through our SDKs, the Web UI, CLI, or Desktop App, have been improved dramatically, especially for large file transfers. Starting with v2.0.6065, files are now split into multiple parts that transfer in parallel and are reassembled by the Agent.
Similarly, we've optimized and parallelized transfers from Files.com storage or from Remote Servers using an S3 interface to the Files.com Agent. This has resulted in transfers up to 6x faster. In addition to faster transfers, individual part failures can now be retried without restarting the entire file transfer, making large migrations and syncs more resilient.
Automatic Updates
The Files.com On-Premise Agent now supports automatic updates, giving you more control over your environment. You can choose the update behavior for each specific agent. Options include all automatic updates, only critical fixes, or no automatic updates at all.
Enabling automatic updates helps keep your system secure, even when you do not have ongoing access to the host server. Updates are cryptographically verified to ensure they have not been tampered with. If an update causes the Agent to fail to start, it will automatically roll back to the previously installed version.

Minor Updates
We've also added new features to make it easier to troubleshoot issues and prevent accidental data loss.
Site Alerts for Read-only Administrators
Site Administrators can configure any Read-only administrator to receive site alert emails, such as alerts about LDAP, single sign-on integration failures, users locked out after too many failures, and more. This gives read-only administrators more tools to provide self-service troubleshooting for end-users.

Automatically Archive Files
The new Archive Removed Files feature protects against accidental data loss by preserving every item that is deleted or overwritten in a folder. Removed items are automatically moved into a designated archive path rather than being deleted, so a reliable record of past versions remains readily available for recovery, compliance, or audits.
