May 2025

In May 2025, we introduced powerful new capabilities to Files.com, led by the debut of our MCP (Model Context Protocol) Server, which enables seamless AI integration into your file management workflows.

Other notable features include the ability to receive real-time updates via Microsoft Teams webhook notifications, the User Lifecycle Rules feature, and our new Permissions Audit Export tool.

We've made our remote servers more flexible with HMAC authentication for Google Cloud Storage. We’ve also improved webhook filtering and delivered a range of web interface improvement to simplify your daily operations while maintaining enterprise-grade security and compliance.

Files.com MCP Server

We’re excited to announce the release of the Files.com MCP (Model Context Protocol) Server. Connect your AI systems with Files.com in a secure, powerful, and scalable way.

Microsoft Teams Integration

We’ve released a new webhook notification feature just for Microsoft Teams. It's now easier than ever to stay informed and collaborate in real time with your team.

With this new integration, you can configure Files.com to send automated notifications directly to your Microsoft Teams channels. Whether you’re monitoring file uploads, tracking folder activity, or responding to key events, Microsoft Teams notifications help you and your team stay in sync without leaving your collaboration environment.

You can direct webhook notifications into any Microsoft Teams channel with fully configurable triggers for key file and folder events. It's simple to set up with your existing Microsoft Teams infrastructure.

Microsoft Teams notifications are available now and can be configured by any Folder Admin or Site Administrator.

User Lifecycle Rules

Managing user access just got a whole lot easier. We've released User Lifecycle Rules, a powerful new feature that puts you in full control of user onboarding, offboarding, and access expiration.

With User Lifecycle Rules, you can automatically disable or delete inactive users based on your organization’s needs. Rules can be targeted to specific authentication methods and can optionally include Folder Admins or Site Administrators.

This gives you more control over account management and helps maintain security and compliance with minimal manual effort.

Permissions Audit Export

The Permissions Audit Export is a new reporting feature that gives you complete visibility into every permission assigned across your Files.com sites.

You can generate a comprehensive report showing all user and group permissions, across all folders, in a single, easy-to-analyze file. It’s the fastest way to audit access, validate security policies, and support compliance efforts.

If your Files.com environment includes child sites, running the report from the parent site includes permissions across all of your sites, making it effortless to track down who has which access.

The export generates a consolidated CSV report for users and groups in an exportable format that makes it easy to analyze. Whether you're preparing for a security audit or simply want to tighten access controls, the Permissions Audit Export gives you the clarity and confidence to manage permissions at scale.

This feature is available now for all site administrators. Learn more about Running the Export.

Other Minor Updates

Settings Changes Logs in SIEM feeds

Settings Changes logs can now be included in your SIEM integration, providing greater visibility into more types of activity. Now it's easy to monitor changes made to site-wide settings and configurations, as well as changes made to folder settings performed by the Site Administrators and the Folder Admins.

To begin receiving this data, site administrators must update their SIEM configuration to enable the new feed. Learn more about the Types of Logs that can be enabled with SIEM.

Google Cloud Storage with HMAC Authentication

The Files.com integration for Google Cloud Storage now supports Hash-based Message Authentication Code (HMAC) authentication, providing an additional option for secure and flexible access. This allows you to authenticate using access and secret keys, aligning with best practices for programmatic access in GCS. HMAC authentication is intended for use cases where you're connecting through an S3-compatible API or where JSON credentials are not preferred or feasible.

Site Administrators can make changes to each Remote Server configuration to switch from JSON authentication to HMAC.

Send Trigger File After Sync

You can configure your Remote Server Sync to automatically send a 0-byte trigger file when the sync process completes successfully. This is commonly used to signal downstream systems to begin processing.

The sync trigger file is configurable on each sync by any site administrator or folder admin who has access to set up the sync.

Exclude Patterns for Webhooks

You can now exclude files matching specific patterns from triggering a webhook. This allows for more targeted notifications by filtering out files that don't require action rather than relying upon supplemental logic in your webhook listener. This update will reduce noise and streamline your webhook usage.

The exclude filename patterns can be set up for each webhook by any site administrator or folder admin who has access to the webhook's folder.

Better Scripting Support in Files.com Command Line Interface (CLI) App

The Files.com Command Line Interface (CLI) App has been updated to better support scripting and automation. CLI now returns accurate error codes to reflect execution results, and a new --non-interactive flag prevents the CLI from waiting for user input, making it easier to use in unattended scripts.

The --non-interactive flag requires version 2.15.0 or higher. Learn more about Downloading and Installing the CLI App.

We've made several enhancements to Share Links to improve both security and usability.

Site administrators can enable a setting to automatically revoke a user's share links when their account is disabled, deleted or when the user's expiration date is reached.

Share link lists now default to sorting by newest first, making it easier to find recent activity. To locate specific links more quickly, you can search for share links by their URL key.

Web Interface Improvements

We’ve made several improvements to your experience in the web interface.

Fields that accept Markdown now feature an interactive editor, so you no longer need to remember or use Markdown syntax manually. This makes editing and formatting content much easier and more intuitive.

We’ve also adjusted the custom header and footer widths across the platform to improve readability and provide a cleaner layout.

In the GPG Key Manager, you can now select just a private key when signing. Previously, the interface required both a public and private key even though only the private key was used.

Finally, the Remote Servers listing is now more flexible. You can choose which columns to display, giving you better control over how information is presented.
