Introducing Workspaces: Independent Environments for Every Team
Files.com Workspaces give every team their own isolated environment with delegated administration, self-service operations, and centralized governance.
Files.com is introducing the Desktop v6 app, a Windows and macOS application built for high-speed, large-scale file transfers between your desktop and Files.com. It is built for teams that move a lot of data: gigabytes at a time, or thousands of files in one run. Unlike tools such as FileZilla and other desktop apps, Desktop v6 is built for speed, scale, and ease of use when sending files to and from Files.com.
Desktop v6 runs transfers in parallel, splitting a job across many connections at once instead of one at a time, and asks less of your machine while doing it. That makes it a good fit for Windows and macOS users who do not need to mount Files.com as a drive. If you do want direct file access through your file explorer, the Desktop v4 app mounts Files.com as a drive in macOS Finder and Windows Explorer.
Desktop v6 is built to handle demanding workflows, and it solves three problems that trip up ordinary file-transfer apps:
Running transfers in parallel and using your machine's resources efficiently is how Desktop v6 stays fast without dropping accuracy.
Tools like FileZilla and Cyberduck are fine for basic transfers, but they tend to struggle with large files, high volumes, or deadline-driven work. Desktop v6 is built for exactly those cases:
The Desktop v6 app fits any team moving large files, working against tight deadlines, or running extreme transfer jobs. A few examples:
The Files.com Desktop App now runs on Intel-based Mac systems, so more macOS users can move large batches of files from their workstation faster than they could over SFTP.
To get started, download the latest version.
Starting with version 6.0.1518, the Files.com Desktop App v6 for Windows can map a drive letter automatically. Your Files.com site shows up as a local drive on your computer, so reaching your files takes one less step.
You stay in control: you decide whether the drive maps automatically, and which drive letter it uses.
Drive mapping is available now for Windows. Support for other platforms is coming soon.
The Desktop App v6 works two ways: as a standalone app for high-speed transfers of large data sets, and as a mounted drive that plugs into your operating system. In standalone mode, you open the app to run high-speed transfers like uploading or downloading large folders. In mounted mode, Files.com appears as a drive in Windows Explorer or Mac Finder (coming soon), so you can browse folders, open files, edit them, and save changes straight from your local apps, just like any other drive.
If you are still on FileZilla, Cyberduck, WinSCP, Transmit, ForkLift, rsync, or a pile of custom scripts, Desktop v6 replaces all of them: faster, more reliable, and built to scale, with parallel transfers and drag-and-drop simplicity.
The app is the front door to the Files.com File Orchestration Platform: the cloud-native platform that replaces the stack of legacy tools IT teams run to move files: SFTP and FTP servers, MFT suites, file-sharing apps, and the scripts holding them together. It speaks every protocol, connects to 50+ cloud and on-prem systems, automates every transfer, and keeps a complete audit trail. Desktop v6 is how your team moves files to and from that platform at full speed.
