MuleSoft is an integration platform — an iPaaS, short for integration platform as a service. In plain terms, it is a tool that wires your business applications together so data flows between them without anyone copying files by hand. A connector is the prebuilt adapter that teaches MuleSoft how to talk to one specific system. This one teaches it to talk to Files.com.
What the Connector Does
The connector lets you manage files, folders, share links, users, and groups in your Files.com site directly from a MuleSoft process — no custom code to write. You build the steps in MuleSoft, and the connector handles the calls to Files.com.
It runs on the Files.com REST API rather than a raw SFTP or FTP session, so it is faster and more reliable than a generic file-transfer connector. SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) and FTP (File Transfer Protocol) are the older, lower-level ways to move a file from one machine to another. The connector adds built-in retries — if a transfer drops mid-flight, it picks back up instead of failing the whole job.
Connect Files.com to Everything Else
MuleSoft connects Files.com to thousands of other applications, systems, and workflows. Its Anypoint Studio is a visual, point-and-click design tool — an IDE, or integrated development environment — that you download for Windows, Mac, or Linux. You assemble integrations by dragging steps into place, and most can be built with no coding at all.
Once Files.com is in your MuleSoft flow, the rest of the platform comes with it: secure transfer over SFTP, FTP, and AS2 (a protocol for sending files between trading partners with a signed receipt), the web interface, remote sync, remote mount, and automated workflows that kick off when a file arrives. You can use Files.com authentication and permissions to safely open a business process up to outside partners, vendors, and customers.

A Platform That Speaks Every Protocol
A connector like this one is worth more when the system behind it does more. Files.com is the cloud-native File Orchestration Platform: one platform that replaces the stack of legacy tools IT teams run to move files — SFTP and FTP servers, MFT suites, file-sharing apps, and the custom scripts holding them together. It speaks every protocol, connects 50+ cloud and on-prem systems, automates every transfer, and keeps a complete audit trail.
That is why most teams reach for the connector in the first place. Instead of bolting a one-off file step onto a MuleSoft flow, you point MuleSoft at a single platform that already handles the transfer, the storage, the partner access, and the logging an auditor asks to see. The same Files.com site is also reachable over plain SFTP for partners who prefer it, so adding MuleSoft does not lock anyone out.
Many organizations rely on Google Drive for internal collaboration, but external file exchange often requires stronger governance and security controls. See how Files.com extends Google's capabilities.
