June 2025

June 2025 brought changes to user management, integrations, and the IP addresses Files.com uses for inbound and outbound traffic.

IP Address Whitelisting Changes

Files.com has acquired a dedicated and contiguous IP block, and we will begin using only that range for all inbound and outbound Files.com traffic starting March 2, 2026.

Customers who use firewall rules will be able to whitelist a single entry going forward. The new range is 198.72.80.0/20 (all IP Addresses from 198.72.80.0 through 198.72.95.255).

If your site has dedicated IP addresses, you will not need to make any changes to your firewall configuration.

New Tools for User Management

Several updates make user account management more automatic. You can automate account lifecycle steps, preserve resources when users leave, and impersonate users to troubleshoot access issues.

User Lifecycle Rules to Automatically Delete Disabled Users

User Lifecycle Rules now support automatic deletion of disabled users, extending the existing rules that disable inactive users.

Site Administrators set the conditions under which disabled users are deleted. Rules can target all users or only those using a specific authentication method, define how long to wait before deletion, and control whether folder admins and Site Administrators are included.

The Prevent this user from being disabled due to inactivity option excludes a specific user from current or future User Lifecycle Rules, which is useful for keeping service accounts in place.

Site Administrators have access to configure automatic deletion in your User Lifecycle Rules.

Reassign Resources When Deleting a User

When deleting a user, Site Administrators can now reassign ownership of the user's resources to another user. The list of resources includes share links, automations, GPG keys, remote server configurations, custom forms, and folder settings.

Assigning ownership to a different user gives that user full control over the resources. If no new owner is assigned, Site Administrators retain the ability to manage them. Either way, the resources remain in place when team members change.

Impersonate a User in the Web Interface

Site Administrators can impersonate a user through the web interface. This creates a read-only session that mirrors exactly what the selected user would see.

Use it to troubleshoot access issues and verify permissions without changing the user's settings. All impersonation sessions are logged in your API logs to provide a full audit trail.

Other Minor Updates

Multiple Enhancements to AS2

Several updates to AS2 make it easier to exchange messages with a wider variety of partners.

You can now download a copy of your public certificate from your AS2 Identity configuration, which helps when partners need it to implement their side of the connection.

The unique internal message ID is now included in the MDN and the HTTP Header of outgoing AS2 messages to improve compatibility with some other AS2 vendors.

AS2 now supports compressed incoming messages automatically. No action is needed to enable this. Incoming messages without signatures are also supported, and the signature requirement is configurable through the Signature validation level on the AS2 Partner.

Both the MDN validation level and the Signature validation level now include an "Auto" setting that uses the next received message to determine the highest security level the partner supports. The next message always passes validation. After processing, the setting changes from auto to the most secure setting that passes validation. This simplifies configuring each partner's connection.

Support for Write+List Buckets in Google Cloud Storage

Google Cloud Storage (GCS) integrations are now compatible with buckets that permit only writing and listing files, without allowing download permissions.

This update makes it easier to integrate with GCS environments that enforce stricter access controls, such as drop zones or upload-only destinations.

Site Administrators can add connections to write-only buckets following the same procedure as a bucket that allows downloading. Some operations such as previewing, downloading, copying or moving files, are not supported for write-only buckets.

Shared Items in Google Drive

The Files.com Google Drive integration now includes a dedicated Shared with Me section for accessing files and folders that others have shared with your account. This brings the integration closer to the native Google Drive experience.

The new Shared with Me virtual folder is populated automatically in your connected Google Drive view. No changes to your Remote Server configuration are required.

Files.com Desktop v6 App Now Supports Intel-Based macOS

The latest version of the Files.com Desktop App is now fully supported on Intel-based Mac systems, so more macOS users can transfer large quantities of files from their workstation faster than SFTP.

To get started, download the latest version of the Desktop App.

Developer Documentation and SDKs Updates

Several updates across Files.com SDKs and APIs improve the developer experience.

The C# SDK now supports the .NET 8.0 framework, starting with version 1.4.186External LinkThis link leads to an external website and will open in a new tab.

The MCP Server SDKExternal LinkThis link leads to an external website and will open in a new tab now includes descriptions of all available tools, which makes it easier to identify the right functionality for your AI applications.

The developer API documentation has been updated with clearer guidance on filtering and sorting options.

Improved Placeholder Handling for Renaming Uploaded Files

The Rename Uploaded Files setting now uses only the standard date placeholders, such as %Y, %m, and %d. Legacy placeholders like YYYY, MM, or DD are no longer interpreted as date values and will remain unchanged.

This change makes placeholder handling consistent across the platform and aligns with modern formatting conventions.

No action is needed if you were using the legacy placeholders for renaming. All existing configurations have been updated automatically to use the new placeholder standard.

New Option to Always Serialize Jobs for an Automation

Each Automation includes a new Always serialize jobs setting. When enabled, this forces all operations within the automation to run one at a time, rather than in parallel.

Serializing the automation's jobs avoids race conditions on remote systems. The setting only affects Automations with a trigger of file actions or inbound webhooks.

Enabling this setting may reduce performance. Turn it on only when necessary. By default, Automations parallelize operations where possible.

Group Memberships Report

Site Administrators can run a Group Memberships Report that provides a clear view of all users assigned to each group, including which users have group admin privileges. The export supports auditing group structures and managing access.

The Group Membership Report works like other data exports in the web interface that create CSV exports. You can navigate to other pages once the report has started, and a link to the export CSV will be emailed to you.

New Date Field Type in Custom Forms

Custom Forms now support a new Date field type. This field accepts both a date and a time, stored in the standardized ISO 8601 extended formatExternal LinkThis link leads to an external website and will open in a new tab.

The Date field is well suited to scheduling and timestamp data, and it gives downstream systems a consistent format to consume. For example, in a form for an Inbox, the provided date can be inserted into automatically created subfolders.

Bytes Transferred in Public Hosting Logs

Public Hosting logs include a new column showing the number of bytes transferred for each request. This gives you visibility into file access and bandwidth usage for publicly hosted content.

No action is needed to enable this. Public Hosting logs include this data automatically for all new transfers.
