Site Configuration

A Files.com site defines the shared settings for its users and workflows: authentication, security policy, network addresses, branding, and billing. Site Administrators manage these settings. Start with the requirements for your first workflow, then configure the controls that apply to your organization.

Account Structure and Administration

Every site starts with a Default Workspace. You can create users, assign folder permissions, and run workflows there without creating additional Workspaces or sites.

Workspaces give teams separate files, users, partners, automations, and integrations, with administrators responsible for each Workspace. They share the site's authentication, security policy, domain, and branding. Child Sites provide separate site-wide configuration when those settings need to differ. Parent Site Administrators retain oversight of their Child Sites.

Users & Groups covers identity and folder access. Partners organize external businesses and their users. The account-structure guide explains how these concepts work together.

Authentication and Security

Files.com provides security defaults, including encryption enforcement and brute force protection. Configure SSO when using a central identity provider, and review two-factor authentication for interactive users. Keep machine accounts separate from people so unattended transfers do not depend on an interactive login.

Security covers protocol access, password and session policies, network restrictions, and malware protection. Root Folder Settings and Child Site Management Policies control enforcement across Workspaces and Child Sites.

Storage and Connectivity

Files can reside in Files.com Regional Storage or on connected storage. Storage location and transfer routing are separate choices; review both when your organization has regional requirements.

Each site has a Files.com subdomain. An optional Custom Domain provides an address on a domain you own. Networking & Performance explains DNS, IP addresses, required hostnames and ports, and transfer performance.

Retention and Recovery

Data Governance covers upload restrictions, retention, recovery, preservation, and data residency. Set expiration and retention according to the records your organization needs to keep. Confirm the recovery options before relying on a deletion or archive workflow.

Presentation and Operation

Branding & Customization controls logos, colors, language, and the web interface's presentation. Each Child Site has its own branding; Workspaces share their site's branding.

Review Logs & Reports to verify activity and investigate failures. Usage explains metering, while Billing & Accounts covers invoices, payments, and billing contacts. Support & Services provides authenticated support, migration assistance, and service status information.
