No. Files.com connects to an R2 bucket with an R2 Access Key and Secret, so you never need a Cloudflare account of your own. Many Files.com customers run on AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or on-prem and use the R2 integration only to exchange with a partner or vendor who keeps their files in R2.
No, unless you ask it to. A Remote Server Mount proxies every operation to R2 in real time, and nothing is copied onto Files.com. If you’d rather Files.com hold a copy, for backup, a faster tier, or as the primary store, a Sync does that, to a destination you choose. Files.com has its own storage, so where the data lives is your decision.
