R2 is cheap storage that's free to read back. But it can't let a partner log in over SFTP, hand someone a download link, or show you who did what. Files.com adds all of that on top of any R2 bucket, yours or a partner's. Move files off pricey storage into R2, then send, receive, and share them from Files.com, and never pay to read them back.
Teams pick R2 because reading files back is free, often to get out from under the download charges the big clouds tack on. The catch is that R2 is great storage but not a way to work with files: no SFTP, no share links, no drop-off folders, no per-folder access, no record of who did what, no real screen. R2's own settings decide which keys can reach the bucket. They were never meant to manage the people and partners working with the files inside. Files.com adds that part: who can see what, a record of everything, and the same company logins your team already uses.

People sign in with your company login: SSO, SAML, LDAP, or Active Directory. When someone leaves, you cut their access to the bucket in one place, so a former employee can’t still reach files you forgot about.
Files.com can encrypt and decrypt files automatically as they move, so sensitive data is protected before it ever lands in the bucket.
Show the R2 bucket as a Files.com folder, with every action going straight to R2. Use this when you want Files.com to be the place people go to reach the bucket. Best pointed at a folder, though pointing it at the whole bucket works too.
Copy files between R2 and other Files.com storage on a schedule, in one direction or both. Good for moving files off pricey storage, archiving, backups, or copying between clouds.
Kick off a Files.com Automation when a file arrives, on a timer, or when a rule is met. The R2 bucket can be where files come from, where they go, or both. Files.com treats it exactly like its own storage.
A scheduled Automation pulls files out of SharePoint or a big-cloud bucket and writes them into R2, where reading them back is always free.
